Hong Kong Island

Sir Henry Pottinger, the first British Governor of Hong Kong, wrote to Parliament in London "...every single hour I have passed in this superb country has convinced me of the necessity and desirability of our possessing such a settlement as an emporium for our trade..." Over 170 years later Hong Kong Island remains a vibrant emporium, and so much more.
The contrast between the hectic street life, the fashionable malls, the bustling harbour and the central business district fascinate, tempt and astonish.
Let's hop on a tram to the CBD, meet Stit and Stephen at the iconic HSBC building. Buy a few dollars of delicious Char Sui from a vendor in Wanchai. Wonder at how Feng Shui, Taoism and Money form the fascinating Hong Kong culture. Get an eyeful of the splendour of the "superb country" that Pottinger described, from the Peak and fall in love with Hong Kong.

Highlights

See the markers on the map above to get an idea of some of the highlights of the Hong Kong Island private sightseeing tour. These are suggestions, but if you have other places you want to visit let me know.

Transport

Hong Kong Island is a public transport paradise: We will use the MTR (that's what we call the subway or underground); public busses; double decker trams (we call them "Ding Ding"); the Peak Tram to ride down the mountain; and our own feet. There is quite a lot of walking, because we see a great deal in this packed day.

Eating

We usually go for a Dim Sum lunch in an iconic Hong Kong Island restaurant - Maxim's at City Hall. It's very popular, so there is probably going to be some waiting time. If you have dietary needs let me know.

Price

The price is for my guiding services. There are additional goods and services during the tour, for food, transport and so forth. These additional costs have to be paid for directly, to the service providers, on the day. I don't take any commission or freebies.

Who should see Hong Kong Island?

Everyone!                                                               A tour of Hong Kong Island is the essential - MUST DO ! - tour.

  • Whether you can spare a half or whole day, during a business trip;

  • You are on a family trip and have several days;

  • Perhaps you are a new Hong Kong resident

  • On a stop over, returning to the airport, or on a cruise port of call disembarkation
